Charlie Sheen has been given another TV show. And a Fiat commercial. Both of which he flaunts his blatant disrespect of women by asking in the fiat commercial, what do i get for good behavior? (inferring to his house arrest) to the model he is pressed on. And then in his…
I know it’s not Friday anymore, but I thought this was really cool. This is a version of Rapunzel from Tangled if the movie were set in India. The artist is http://ziggyplayed.tumblr.com
i already said this and i lost the whole post and i can’t make the words go but i’m going to try again
i am bengali (go ahead, look it up, i’ll wait), and seeing this drawing made me feel super gross. i am used to seeing south asian women drawn in a certain way by white artists (i assumed from the pic that the artist was white and looked on their page and they are), a way that makes me feel really deeply disgusting. this probably seems really benign to you? but okay so
rapunzel would not wear a sari until she was like 30 probably. south asia is huge, INDIA is huge and has many ethnic and cultural groups but in my experience women don’t wear a sari until after they are married. that was an instant, almost subconscious thing that started making me feel like there was something wrong with this picture.
saris don’t wrap that way, ever, and there are specific, traditional ways to wrap saris that south asian girls learn from our mothers and grandmothers. i can not only tell instantly that you don’t know what a sari really looks like, but also that you didn’t bother to use a reference, which is just completely insulting to me.
why is this insulting?
this is not a picture of a south asian woman. it’s a picture of an exoticised stereotype, drawn by a white person, masquerading as progress. because the artist failed to even attempt to understand, and therefore respect, the cultural implications of the sari and the bindi, it comes off as rude, insulting, and racist. i assume the artist drew this to be like, rad and racebend a white character, thereby subverting whitewashing? but by failing to do your research/actually know a south asian person, you’ve relied on stereotypes and while they’re not the usual “mean” stereotypes, they still dehumanise south asian people and they make me feel super gross and just stop it! if you pride yourself on being a white person that isn’t racist or whatever, can you please actually respect people like me as human beings instead of… whatever this shit is??
i’m trying not to be mad, i feel really bad that i’m saying this but i thought that damnlayoffthebleach was a safe place. i know the mods of that blog aren’t dicks and i’m not yelling at you guys so i’m sorry for the bitchy reblog ; ; but i had to say something at the internet, this has been bothering me generally for a while. south asian women are exoticised by white people to a just, disgusting, horrible, evil, way and i probably sound like i’m overreacting but, this kind of picture adds to it and i would just like one day without it
also ps her face does not look indian to me at all but maybe i’m just … ugh vblkghf
BRHood: Okay, for starters, I’d like to apologize on behalf of all of us here at DLOTB. Our goal IS to be a safe place for all PoC, and something like this SHOULDN’T have made it’s way to our page. So I apologize for that. And, your anger towards this doesn’t need to be censored. You have every right to be angry with us, as well as every right to vent. We fucked up, and in cases like this, we can easily understand where we fucked up and apologize. So again, we are extremely sorry.
Also, thanks for pointing this out. There was another situation a while back, that we mods still haven’t resolved, about pointing out these things in South Asian culture. But as none of us mods were familiar enough with the culture, we weren’t (and still aren’t) sure how to handle it. So in the future, if the cultural context is something out of our understanding, then we need to make an effort to do the proper research before letting it on our page. Either by asking our followers, or doing intensive outside research.
So again, thank you for bringing this to our attention and explaining why this post was so problematic. I apologize for us making you feel as though our blog is not a safe space. And trust me, we will all work harder to make up for this slip up, as well as hopefully gain your trust back in our blog. And for our other followers, if you see us fucking up in this way, do not hesitate to call us out. And again, we are sorry.
reblog for commentary
Popular representation of “LGBT,” to scale.

I have just changed the title and url to my blog from bi-sexy-studs to bi-sexy-fun.tumblr.com
The reason behind this is i am gonna expand my content to include more girl on girl for all you hot bisexual and gay girl followers out there. Dont worry i will still post hot guys and some guy on guy for my male followers. I am a male after all who happens to be bisexual. I just want my page to be all things bisexual.
Now lets have some bisexy fun!

Book vending machines. Great idea.

The notes
We could rule the world, destroy countries, build fantastic cities made of tecnologies, declare heterosexuality illegal, pilot every freaking show.
A must-read in general. One fantastic response:I think that it’s important to consider the implications that all of this unpaid (and likely stemming from the upper-class) labor has on society as well, especially within the industries that largely require entire chunks of time and resources from those aspiring to join them. Particularly within the public sector, one glaring example of this is the field of legislative aide job opportunities that are often only handed out to those who have toiled away for months (and indeed sometimes years) on end as campaign volunteers.
This creates a setup where an entire profession (any job offering Congressional support) effectively shuts out the very large proportion of the college-aged population who do not have parents (or some other richer benefactor) that can afford to subsidize living costs for however long they need to gain the extensive and unpaid experience necessary to enter the good graces of a Congressman or Senator. The implications of this are far-reaching and structural; and reinforce the culture of privilege already rampant in Washington D.C. where not only do federal lawmakers themselves often lack valuable perspective on the issues plaguing lower- and middle class Americans that constitute the majority of the nation’s citizenry, but also with the advisors and assistants working for them, who by virtue of being able to land their jobs in the first place already were fortunate enough to have been born into the nation’s wealthy economic minority. This creates a cycle of dissonance between the real world economic reality that Americans face and what the legislative class in Washington understands the proper solutions are to those very problems.
THANK YOU. I went to my college’s career services (and I have an EXTREME amount of privilege to even have access to something like that), and they told me that I needed internships to get hired. Well, I don’t have the means to take an unpaid internship - but that doesn’t matter to them, or to potential employers. So I’m graduating a week from tomorrow, unemployed, while my wealthier friends (whose parents bankrolled their summers of unpaid internships) have job offers. Sweet deal.
